Tidy is a macOS menu-bar app that fixes your writing in place. Select text in any app and press a global hotkey: ⌃⌥⌘T tidies spelling, grammar, and punctuation; ⌃⌥⌘S de-slops AI-generated text back into your own voice. Corrections come from Apple’s on-device model. Press ⌘Z to undo. Tidy runs entirely offline: no network calls, ever.

Open the DMG and drag Tidy into Applications, then launch it. Tidy is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings. It lives in the menu bar, with no Dock icon.

Requirements

• macOS 26 (Tahoe) on Apple Silicon.
• Apple Intelligence enabled for the on-device AI engine. If it’s unavailable, Tidy falls back to spelling-only corrections via NSSpellChecker.

First run

Tidy needs Accessibility access to synthesize ⌘C / ⌘V in the frontmost app. On first trigger, or any time from System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, grant Tidy access.

Usage

Select text anywhere, then press a hotkey: ⌃⌥⌘T to tidy, ⌃⌥⌘S to de-slop. The selection is replaced in place with the corrected text. Rebind either hotkey from the menu-bar icon’s Settings…. Choose light, dark, or system appearance from the switcher in Tidy’s window.

Privacy

Nothing you type ever leaves the machine. Correction runs on device via Apple’s Foundation Models framework, or the local spelling fallback; there is no network dependency anywhere in the app. The usage counter shown in the window is stored locally in UserDefaults and is never transmitted.

Known limitations

• Requires an active text selection: Tidy has nothing to correct otherwise.
• Hyperlinks, bold, and italic are preserved: Tidy re-attaches each after correcting, pasting back as an HTML fragment so the destination keeps its own typography. A run whose text the correction rewrote drops to plain.
• Bulleted and numbered lists are left untouched, rather than flattened on the plain-text round-trip.
• A handful of apps may reject the synthesized paste and no-op instead of replacing the selection.
